This Is Some Serious Business

December begins tomorrow, and with it, our version of The 12 Days of Christmas.  You know the tradition where someone chooses a family or individual that really needs help and assistance during the holidays?  Well, why not choose Albina, Alina & Maks?

THEY NEED YOU!
And we're going to make this really simple.
What more could you ask for?

Our goal?  Gather $10,462 of donations between now and December 12 (so we can meet our 4th goal).  And if we reach this goal... guess what?

THIS AWESOME HEAD OF HAIR

WILL BE GONE!
(Just in time to enjoy the cold weather of Ukraine and
see if his Ukrainian kids recognize him without hair).

Let's make this happen!

Each day I will post the daily gift to the orphans on the blog, but this video will give you a little sneak peak of what you should prepare for.

PS  Creating a video is really difficult.  We have a bunch of movies now of us singing this song... none of which are perfect.  So, you get one of the imperfect versions.  Enjoy!

Are There Still Miracles?

Yesterday I received the following message from the man that is responsible for setting up the hosting programs in the US (the hosting program that allowed us to meet our kids this past summer):

"Please know that the people who met your kids BEFORE you met them care deeply about the outcome of their visit to America.  Back in the spring, we saw their names on a list of available kids to consider for the hosting program.  I first declined to include Albina, Alina, and Max because they were a sib set of three and we HAD ONLY PLACED A 3-SIB SET TWICE BEFORE.  The odds of finding a family who would take three kids is very small.  Then, when Sasha sent me the photos of the group and I saw Albina and Alina, I was encouraged that they were the kind of kids for whom we could find a family.  There was a look on Albina’s face in the photo that seemed to hint at a depth and maturity beyond her years.  I thought she deserved the opportunity to win the hearts of a family (and I am SO GLAD now that family is your family!)."

Albina hates this picture of herself, but it was the first picture I saw of her, and the one spoken of above.  I love it!

The first picture I saw of Alina.  I couldn't believe how much she resembled my daughter, Emma.

I fell in love with this sweet boy immediately.  Who wouldn't?

This information is so incredibly amazing to me!  I am in awe of the fact that before we even had an inkling that our life was about to change in drastic ways, the Lord was directing people to help Albina, Alina and Maks find and join our family.  Isn’t that awesome?

It got me thinking about the additional miracles that have taken place to lead us to where we are today.  Here are just a few from off the top of my head in no particular order (there are obviously many, many more):

1.     Someone that I hardly know chose to include me in an email about a summer hosting program.
2.     I actually read the email.
3.     I started blogging (this is a HUGE miracle… and if you don’t believe me, check out my great blogging skills on our familyblog).  ;-)
4.     Isabel changed schools and her new school offered to sponsor a fundraiser for our family.  (The Sugar Rush 5K)
5.     Friends of mine came to me and offered to organize and put on a neighborhood yard sale that attracted generous people willing to contribute to our cause.
6.     The daughter of an old friend (like from when I was 10 years old) decided to have her quartet play at a farmers market and collect donations for our adoption fund.
7.     The USCIS actually changed their mind about needing additional paperwork from Toria.  This was seriously so huge that I am still amazed that it happened!
8.     Design Mom shared our story on her blog, which caused over 3000 people to view our story in one day!
9.     Many, many people have read our story and contributed to our cause (donations from over 150 people in amounts from $1 - $5000 have come to us by wonderfully generous individuals that want to help us bring Albina, Alina & Maks home!  And that’s not even counting the people that have supported our fundraising events and contributed!)
10. We’ve raised over $30,000 in just 3 months.  All because of #9!
11. Generous businesses and individuals donated items to our online auction, and even more individuals placed bids and supported our online auction.
12. I am still sane (most of the time) and feeling remarkably at peace.
13. I have been blessed with 4 biological children that are possibly the absolute best candidates for siblings of adoptive children.  They are about the most loving, caring, sensitive individuals I know and are so anxious to have their sisters and brother here with them.  I love that I have such an awesome support system in my children!
14. We had a family of 8 live for us for about 2 ½ months while they were waiting for their home to be available at the beginning of this month.  Now that they are gone, I actually miss having more people around.  This means that the adjustment of having 3 additional kids won’t feel as crazy as it would have been without that experience.  (And now I’m not scared and overwhelmed at the thought of adding 3 kids all at once… well, maybe a little, but not nearly as much as before.)
15. There is a teacher at Isabel’s school (where Albina will go to school) that is from Ukraine and speaks Russian.

And I could seriously go on and on and on… small miracles take place each and every day.  I am so grateful and humbled!

And the miracles will continue!

We expect to hear from Ukraine in about a week.  That means that we could possibly be on our way to Ukraine in 2 ½ weeks from right now.  It will take a serious miracle to raise the additional $30,000 before then.

Is it possible?

YES!

For there are the miracles taking place right now, and miracles that will continue to take place in the next few weeks.

1.     Someone is reading this blog post right now and thinking, “What can I do to help?” and they’ll realize that they CAN make a difference… and they will.
2.     You will realize that the someone is YOU.
3.     Many, many “YOU’s” will come forward and together make a spectacular difference!  Our donations will grow in leaps and bounds because people will pull together and help us reach our goal.

Because, just in case you haven’t heard:

There are 3 children in Ukraine right now that are waiting for their forever family to come and get them.  They are anxious to have a Papa and a Mama.  They want to enjoy more siblings.  They want to live in a home instead of an orphanage.  They dream of the day that they can feel loved and wanted.  They yearn for opportunity and experiences that will allow them to grow and develop and improve.  They desire a future that is worth living for.  They pray that their forever family will come to them very, very soon!

They are praying that you will help their forever family reach their financial goals so that all these dreams can become a reality.

And you realize, that if it were really as simple as just bringing our kids home, we would have been done long ago.  But it’s not so simple… and we need your help.

THEY need your help!

Biggest Disappointment EVER!

“Today I got a notification on my phone telling me that my mom had tagged me in a Facebook post saying, ‘I’m so excited for Emma and Isabel to get home from school’.  Of course my hopes automatically shot up.  I thought, ‘Maybe we got a court date!’ and then got really excited!  When I got home, I found out that my mom was just being nice.  I have never been so disappointed in all my life.”  -Isabel

Currently, our family is anxiously waiting to hear from the Ukrainian government.  Every prayer we utter is pleading for our court date to come soon.  Really soon.

Lately we’ve realized that we aren’t the only ones anxiously waiting for this event.  Here are two of my recent messages from Albina:

Albina Truax:
Hi! I am very glad that you had a fun Halloween! I would be happy with you dressed in a nerd! When you go to Ukraine write!  Give my greetings to all, I miss ...

Albina:
Hi all! Thank you for the presents, we really liked them!!!! I especially liked the slippers Max, if they were more, I'd wear them =) When you arrive? Miss .........

Albina has seen the comings and goings of many families over the last few months.  Families that come and leave with their newly adopted son or daughter.  While this gives her hope, it also makes her anxious.  We try to explain the process as best we can, but it’s difficult.  I hope she understands that we are doing everything we can to get to her as quickly as possible!  I sincerely hope that we are able to get to Ukraine before she begins to worry or wonder if we are really, truly coming for her.

There was a period of time that she seemed to lose hope.  It was hard to feel her pull back.  It was difficult to see her put up walls.  We don’t want her to experience that again.  And if we don’t get to Ukraine before the holidays, we fear that she will begin to question whether or not it’s worth hoping and dreaming that she will be able to join a forever family.

We need lots of prayers!

And yes!  We need lots of support.  We still have a lot of money to raise before we head to Ukraine in the next few weeks (did you notice that positive affirmation?).  For Christmas, we want to make Albina’s dreams of having a family come true (as well as Alina’s and Maks’).

We need angels such as yourself to swoop in and help make this their best Christmas ever!

Finally, I wanted to share how James is feeling about our journey and our progress.  Albina grew to really love James over the summer.  And why wouldn’t she?  He is an amazing father!  He was able to figure out ways to easily communicate and make sure she was comfortable and really felt like a part of our family.

It is hard to explain how I feel about our Ukrainian kids. Without going through an adoption, one probably can’t begin to imagine how some orphans from Ukraine, which we have known for such a short time, actually feel as much our children as our biological children. Shelly says it is similar to childbirth – although you have never met the baby you are carrying, you grow to love him/her with an immense, unimaginable love.

“I have grown to miss these, our Ukrainian, children immensely as any father would miss his children that are separated and particularly when they are in a challenging situation.

“There have been emotional ups and downs – very sad times (like when we were forced to say good bye and send them back to the orphanage)

“There have been good times (like when we get pictures of the kids or hear from them (like: Albina Truax “Hi all! How are you doing? I'm fine! I study well. When you arrive? Emma birthday tomorrow, cool, I will congratulate you tomorrow! Bye”

“Some of the most touching communications are when we are asked when we will arrive or inquire if we are still thinking of them (like: Albina Truax – “Hi James, I'm glad you write to me and do not forget me! You from Alina and Maxim hello!”)

“Their anxious questions of “how soon?” and “are you still thinking of us?” and the implied “do you still want us?” really cut deep. It reminds me of why we are doing this even though it is hard.  It gives me strength even though there are challenges.  And it reinforces my resolve to never, ever give up even though there are those that tell us we are crazy.

“I love these kids, I miss them and want them back in our home and I will do whatever it takes to get them here.” – James

Are You An Orphan Hater?

Early on in this journey I approached someone about helping me with our “adoption adventure”.  They were pretty blunt in letting me know that this was not a cause they would support, and that was the end of that.  I’ve never heard from them again.  I completely understand that everyone has certain causes that resonate.  Everyone has something that inspires them to volunteer their time and/or dig deep into their pockets as they show support to their cause of choice.  And it’s different for all of us what that cause is (and that’s really a good thing!).  However, I admit that after this individual turned me down, we joked that this person must hate orphans.  We truly said this in good fun and certainly didn’t have any bad feelings towards this person or anyone else that is unable or even unwilling to donate to our cause.

Then, shortly thereafter, a friend of mine wrote a blog post entitled “10 Reasons I Hate Orphans”.  It made me laugh a little when I read the title.  And then, as I read it, I realized it was NOT funny.

Now, 2 ½ months later, I would like to attempt my own version of this blog post.  Although my reasons are the same (in fact, I’ve shared some of her words verbatim), there are some differences as they’re based on my personal experiences.

10 Reasons I Hate Orphans

1. Orphans Are Incredibly Difficult To Sell:  I mean it – REALLY HARD!  People love babies.  They will buy babies until the cows come home.  But with Orphans they want to test drive them, and kick the tires, they want discounts, and warranties.  It is really hard to move an Orphan, and when I look at the stock of orphans, there are always more waiting to be sold.  It’s sad really, that such innocent children that have been dealt such a hard lot in life are immediately viewed as damaged and unwanted.  No doubt that trauma, neglect, and abandonment cause problems.  But as my dad has always told me, “They just need somebody to love them”.

2. Orphans Make Your Biological Children Look Bad:  While Alina stayed with us I didn’t have to take out the garbage once.  She took on that job all on her own and later said it was one of her favorite things about staying with us.  One Saturday we cleaned the house, cars and garage.  Each time Albina would finish her job, she would come find me, get another job, and happily get back to work.  She said that this was one of her favorite activities while visiting. They made their beds.  They put their laundry away (and by putting it away, I mean they actually hung it up and didn’t just hide it in a pile in the closet).  Alina opened the blinds and took out the dog each morning.  (All this without being asked).  Even though we ate food that was entirely different from what they eat in Ukraine, they never complained and always ate what was served.  Then they said “thank you” and took their dish to the sink.  I don’t know about you, but this is NOT typical behavior of the children in my home.  It was lovely.

3. Orphans Make It Difficult To Believe Your Problems Are Real Problems:  When you’re exposed to the life of an Orphan, you start realizing how blessed you are.  After an especially difficult situation, I realized how fragile Alina was.  How hurt she had been and how desperately she needed to be wanted and loved.  It made my heart ache and caused me to realize how fortunate I am to have always had a stable family.  No longer did I think my problems were major problems… I’ve always had the most important things available to me in my life (even during my most challenging times).  Exposure to the life of an orphan changes your perspective.  It makes you feel petty and small for worrying and complaining about such silly things all the time.

4.  Orphans Make You Question Your Spending:  I mean REALLY question it!  We spend so much money on cute shoes, manicured nails, haircuts, nice pump soap by each sink, eating out, etc. etc. etc.  Every time I spend money now I second-guess myself (and that’s AFTER I’ve given up a lot of things to save for this adoption).  After being exposed to the life of an orphan, it seems like almost everything I would typically spend is frivolous (even things I’ve at one time or another convinced myself are needs).  It just seems silly to spend and waste so much money that could have gone to saving a life.  This is one of the most difficult reasons because it makes you feel especially selfish and like you may not be a good and charitable person.  It becomes a constant battle with yourself.

5.  Orphans Make You Question Your Relationships:  It’s crazy!  You think you have a ton of friends that will always be there for you through thick and thin (and if you were to go through a divorce, or got into a car accident, they probably would be), but just start talking about orphans and good gravy you find out what the hearts of the people around you are made of.  And in some cases, you may find out your friends are not worth having.  (I kept this exactly as my friend wrote it… this was one of my greatest fears going into this “adoption adventure”.  Fortunately, I have learned that I have many wonderful and supportive people around me.  Unfortunately, I have learned that there are also many relationships that were not quite what I thought they were. *sigh*)

6.  Orphans Are Exhausting:  I had never felt so exhausted as I did while Albina and Alina were visiting us… until they left.  And then I felt even more exhausted.  The “adoption adventure” is nothing like the exhaustion you feel after 3 days of “adventure” at Disneyland.  It’s completely physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting.  It’s busy and difficult and it feels lonely.  It gets you out of your comfort zone (which is always exhausting!).  It forces a person that strives to be self-sufficient to reach out and ask for help (LOTS of help).  It causes you to become open and vulnerable.  It puts you in a position where you must let down your guard, where your mistakes and thoughts and feelings are all on display.  This is an uncomfortable position that is usually avoided, but Orphans cause you to think beyond yourself and your exhaustion and just keep moving forward (regardless of how uncomfortable).

7.  Orphans Are Expensive:  REALLY expensive. Many people ask me why it costs so much.  They ask why the process would be so difficult when all we want to do is take children that were unwanted and love them and care for them and WANT them?  You would think that Orphans would be free or cost less than regular children.  But NO!  Orphans have processes and paperwork, red tape up one side and down the other.  To get the orphans you have to travel to countries that aren’t known for their sunny beaches, or site seeing destinations (when dreaming of a European vacation someday, believe it or not, Ukraine was not on my list of places to visit).  And to top it off, you are required to stay in those countries for who knows how long.  This can (and does) cost a fortune.  But when you find Orphans that were meant to be your children, you don’t question the cost.  You simply do whatever it takes to get them home!

8.  Orphans Have Terrible Teeth:  It took a number of days for us to even see Albina’s teeth.  She was so embarrassed by them that whenever she would smile or laugh she would hold her hand over her mouth.  Orphans don’t get regular dental care, so many of them have teeth that are full of cavities and crooked.  They don’t have dental check-ups every 6 months or orthodontic care.  If they have genes that are less than stellar, well, too bad for them!

9.  Orphans Are Addictive:  The other night my daughters and I were talking about the Orphans that visited this summer.  We were going through each of the Orphans and discussing who had found adoptive families and who hadn’t.  When we got to one set of siblings that didn’t find a family we talked about how much we loved them and how much we wanted them to find a family.  My husband overheard this conversation and good-naturedly said, “NO!  I’m putting my foot down at three orphans.  Seven kids is all we can handle!”  While I realize he is right (primarily because we have felt directed to adopt these 3 specific kids and not different kids or additional kids), it is HARD to see any of these beautiful Orphans remain unwanted and living in an orphanage.  I want to help them, I want to find them a family, I want them to know joy and love and stability.  It’s hard to not think beyond saving only three children from a difficult future!

10.  (this is the most important one) Orphans Break Your Heart!:  They do!! They get right in there and break it right open. Your heart physically aches.  And no matter what you do, it will ache forever, because there are always more Orphans.  So you are left with a broken heart, that you go around trying to mend by doing everything you can think of to save just ONE life  (or in our case, THREE lives).  And you hope that although your efforts will never be enough, they will make some sort of difference.

AND FINALLY (because I don’t want to only focus on the Hating of Orphans):

I’ve been asked how I could love these kids after only 4 weeks of having them in my home.
I’ve been asked how I could know they were meant to be my children immediately upon seeing their pictures.
There’s really not a good explanation.
You would have to experience it yourself to understand what it’s like,
Because I never would have understood otherwise.

BUT

Sometimes it’s impossible to explain why you love someone.
It’s not anything they do or don’t do.
It’s not anything they are or aren’t.
It’s not out of pity.
It’s not out of obligation.
It’s not out of duty.
It’s just because somehow your heart was opened to the possibility that it was big enough to love and give more than it ever dreamed possible.
And it’s as simple as acknowledging that you were meant to do something more.
That you were meant to love and be with someone forever.
And then suddenly, you can’t imagine your family being any other way then with that person
(Or those persons in this case).
So you love.
You just LOVE.

(And you hope others will find enough love to help you take care of the fact that #7 exists!)

Over The Hump!

Have you noticed that I've been busy?

Unfortunately blogging hasn't been a priority this week.  I've been sorting, shipping and delivering auction items and traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving.

Guess what?  I'm back!  And excited to announce that our online auction finally got us over the half-way-there hump!  It feels like we've been "almost half-way" for such a long time.  Now we can finally say we are "over-half-way" and IT FEELS GOOD!

Check out our current goal: we're doing well.
And what about our pie chart for our overall fundraising?  There is more blue than red.  YAY!

In the meantime, we are still short a lot of money and I am completely out of ideas for fundraising.  I feel completely tapped out and unsure of what to do or where to go next with the fundraising journey.  Surprisingly, I'm not discouraged.  Just feeling clueless.  I welcome any ideas.

We are getting so anxious, excited and even a bit nervous to get our appointment in Ukraine.  Things are seeming more and more real every day.  We are moving forward and hopefully, before we know it we will be reunited with our kids and have our family all together!

Going, going, GONE!

Are you anxious to hear the final results of the auction?

The auction is over. Did you participate? Did you enjoy it? I'm in the midst of collecting payments and sorting things so I can begin the fun associated with delivering and mailing all the awesome items people won!

More update to come SOON!

Fuzzy Feet In Space

Happy Final Auction Day!

There are just less than 12 hours left for our online auction.  Bid, bid, bid!!!

This morning I met up with another lady that is leaving on Sunday to go to Ukraine and get her daughter.  Her new daughter is one of Albina's best friends.  I am so happy that Albina will have a good friend living nearby.  I think it will make the transition so much easier if she has access to her friends from the orphanage.  I mean, those kids have become like family, so I want them to be able to maintain their relationships with their current "family".  Because of the hosting program that we met our kids through, it gives us a unique opportunity to gain support from others that have gone or are going through the same process we are currently going through.  In addition, it gives us a way to send gifts more easily and receive pictures/video/communication from our kids.  I am so grateful that I'm able to connect with such amazing individuals through this program.  And I'm anxious to be an instrument in helping other adoptive parents connect with their kids while they are waiting to actually make the trek to Ukraine.

Every day I feel more and more ready to go and get my kids.
I feel more and more confident that things are going to work out.
I feel more and more convinced that these kids are meant to be mine and they will be, SOON!

There have been many, many times that I've felt fear.
  • Fear that we wouldn't be able to come up with enough money.
  • Fear that our kids would change their mind.
  • Fear that the Ukrainian government would determine that our kids would be better off on the street than with me as their mother.

Silly fears.
But fears none-the-less.

I'm grateful that I've been blessed with complete calm and peace lately.
I don't have many fears right now.
I simply feel anxious to go see my kids and excited to bring them home for FOREVER.

This Shouldn't Be Like Pulling Teeth!

One more plug today for a specific item on our auction, and this item is AWESOME!

We were introduced to Dr Craig T Smith a few months back.  We have been so impressed with him, and his generous donation just increased our positive views of him.  He is a dedicated dentist, a comforting and caring individual and obviously very giving!

He has donated up to $800 worth of dental work.  YOU CHOOSE!  You can get a crown replacement, teeth whitening, cleaning... whatever, you name it.  And it doesn't have to be used on just one person.  Perhaps your daughter needs a filling, your son needs a cleaning and you could really enjoy having your teeth whitened.  DONE.  You can mix and match the $800 towards dental services between your immediate family members.

This is really cool.
And really amazing of him to offer!

Check out his website to learn more about his practice and services.
Then bid.
I mean, you're going to go see the dentist any way.
You might as well get a deal.
AND a deal from a fantastic dentist!

Here's Hoping!

Last year for Mother's Day I received this special necklace:

My Mother's Day Gift 2012

I realize it's difficult to see all the charms, but there is one charm for each of my children, as well as a charm for James and I.  I love this necklace and receive compliments on it all the time.  I hope to add three additional charms in a very short time!

My necklace was made by Lora Elizabeth Stamped Jewelry, and now she's agreed to add a piece of her beautiful jewelry to our online auction that's taking place as we speak!  You should check it out and strongly consider placing a bid for this simple yet elegant necklace (and then check out her other necklaces on her website... she has a lot of really beautiful things!)

Hope Necklace Available At Our Online Auction

Lora's jewelry is made of sterling-silver, genunine leather and pure swarovski crystals. Many pieces are hand-cut, filed, stamped, oxidized and polished.  Due to the nature of hand-cut and hand stamped jewelry you will find that no two pieces are the same. There may be a slight variation in the spacing or placement of letters as well as variations in colors of leather. This is to be expected and will only add to the uniqueness of your piece.

I love my piece of jewelry (I wear it almost every single day) and I'm confident you will too!

Happy Bidding!

Plugging Along

This is what my amazingly supportive friend posted about our adoption today on Facebook.  I couldn't have given myself a better plug, so I'm just sharing hers with you all:

Dear Friends and Family,

Our friends the James and Shelly Truax Family are trying to adopt three sibling orphans from the Ukraine. They have to raise close to $70,000 in order to do that. They are holding an auction today and tomorrow with
all proceeds going directly to their effort to adopt. Would you please check out the auction items?

AUCTION

If there isn't anything that you want, would you still consider donating $10, $20, $50, or $100 towards their efforts?
DONATE

Everyone hates a plea for money. It makes us uncomfortable for a multitude of reasons, both to ask for it and to be asked for it. The demands on our wallets are heavy and varied. And often, you're never sure what the money you give will go towards.

In this case, forgoing a date night dinner and movie and instead donating that $50 towards the Truax's efforts to adopt, you'll know EXACTLY what your money is going towards. It's going to help three children who have been left parent-less have a chance at a home where there are two parents loving and praying and pulling for them.

Would you please consider it?

The auction is live.  Check it out, bid on items, and help us bring our three kids HOME!

And as always, thank you so much for your support in our efforts to adopt Albina, Alina and Maks!

Stage Craft For Dummies

Yesterday I shared a sampling of our online auction.  I've been adding more things, and still have more to add.  It should be pretty awesome!

This morning I added a really special item that was donated by my dear friend, Kirsten Beitler.  I've known Kirsten for many years.  She has adopted two of her 4 children and has been a huge supporter of ours throughout this process.  Not only does she possess a great gift as an artist (check out her donated item here), but she is a beautiful person inside and out.

Portrait by Kirsten Beitler

A few weeks ago she posted on her own blog about adoption.  It was so beautifully written that I wanted to share it with all of you.  She shares her answer to a common question she gets about her adopted kids: "Do you love them the same?"

Perhaps you've wondered this as well.  I mean, is it really possible to love adopted kids just as much as you love your biological kids?  Kirsten shares her answer.  And I wholeheartedly agree.

However:
Sometimes I get worried that I won't have enough to give to all these kids.
I frequently doubt myself as a mom.
I fear that I don't have it in me to be perfectly consistent.
I worry about how to discipline and teach and influence these kids.
Occasionally I freak out that I have to fit all my parenting into 2 years with Albina since I've already missed out on over 16 years of her life.
AND
Sometimes I think I'll never be able to do anything beyond mothering once I have 7 kids to care for.

(This is a real fear since I have hobbies and talents that I'd really like to pursue and I've already placed them on the back burner for quite some time.  Don't get me wrong, I'm happy and honored to do so since I love my family and my children so much... but eventually I'd really like to get back on stage!)

I'm very aware of my imperfections and inadequacies.  I'm absolutely positive that I'm not the perfect candidate for the job I'm about to take on.  But in spite of my shortcomings, I will admit to having one strength.  And that's my willingness to do whatever God asks of me.  And I suppose that will have to be enough for now.

My 4 biological children have forgiven me over and over again throughout the years.  They've overlooked the fact that sometimes their mother is absolutely crazy and insane!  I continually marvel that they could possibly love me so much.  But they do.

And hopefully Albina, Alina and Maks will be able to get to a point where they can overlook my long list of issues and simply love me and accept me as their mother.  Because I am absolutely positive that I will continue to simply love them and accept them the same way I accept and love my biological children.

And now I'm crying and aching for these kids.

And the stage can wait...

Pathetic Jingles

Announcing Our Upcoming Online Auction!

This morning, I tried to quickly come up with some great lyrics you could sing to a popular holiday melody.  I wanted the lyrics to give you all the information about our upcoming online auction... but I didn't have much luck.  Maybe I'll try again tomorrow, but for today here are my failed attempts.  Hopefully, at the very least, they make you laugh at my stupidity.

And, just so you know (without the rhyming):

We are getting really close to opening our online auction.
We've had a lot of really amazing items donated to our auction!
You will definitely want to check it out,
Get some Christmas shopping taken care of,
All while contributing to our adoption fund!

Win-Win!!!

(to the tune of Jolly Old St Nicholas)

Impending Alien Invasion!

Latest update:

We heard from Ukraine today and all of our paperwork has been translated and submitted to the government.  Now we wait.

The good news is that the waiting period seems to be shorter now than it was a few weeks ago.  This is fantastic and means that we may actually get a court date before the holidays (which is what we have been praying for).  Keeping fingers crossed that things continue to go smoothly and everything falls into place for us!

Now:

I realize that everyone probably rolls their eyes whenever I announce a new and silly fundraiser.  Here's the thing.  As much as I hate continually asking for money, I have to.  I mean, if your kids were stranded in another country and it was going to cost $70,000 to get them home (or even $1 million?) wouldn't you do everything you possibly could to get the money and get them home?  You would plead, beg, steal, whatever it took (ok, maybe not the stealing part)!  I don't know any parents that would say, "Ugh.  That's way too much trouble or money to get my kids back.  Moving on..."  NO!  You would move heaven and earth to get those kids back into your home.

That's exactly what I feel like I'm doing.
It's exactly what I feel I must continue to do.

So, when I announce a fundraiser or ask you to consider donating to our cause, it's not because I want a new pair of jeans or a massage (both of which sound lovely, but will have to wait for a while).  It's because I want to save three kids.  I'm begging and pleading for help and support not for myself, but for my kids!

If you've already donated, THANK YOU!  I realize that most of you following my posts have already contributed.  If you haven't, please consider donating something, somehow.  And regardless of whether or not you have assisted us before now, please forward our story and information to others that could help.

We have 4-6 weeks to come up with over $30,000 more.

So, YES!
I am begging and pleading for you to share our story and help us find the people that can get our kids home safe and sound!

(Don't forget our Presidential Election fundraiser, and look for information on our upcoming silent auction!  I'll start posting information about that in the next few days.  We have lots of fantastic items for sale... it's the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping!!!)

Lastly:

James and I had Chinese food for our date last weekend.  We laughed when we opened our fortune cookies.  What do you think these could mean?

"Someone new is coming into your life to the benefit of you both"

YAY!  Could this be referring to a donor or our kids?  I hope BOTH!  :-)

An alien of some sort will be appearing to you shortly!

And what in the world could this possibly mean?  Not only in our case, but anyone that opens this fortune cookie!  I mean, what would you think if you received this fortune?

Do you buy into fortunes?  Or just look at them in good fun?

If an alien appears to me shortly, I may change my mind on how much I buy into them.  ;-)

Romney Wins!

Over the past weeks (and even months), there have been a lot of posts about politics and the presidential election that took place yesterday.  I've seen a lot of people commenting that they are grateful the election is finally over so they won't have to read all the political rants.  But I'm pretty sure that the aftermath from the election will still create an influx of political commentary for a while.

I live in an area that is largely Republican.  As you can imagine, there are many disappointed people.  I understand that when you are passionate about something (and have been for quite some time), a defeat such as took place yesterday can feel hugely discouraging.

However, if you're anything like me, you simply want to move forward with life.

I mean, it doesn't do any good to continually look into the past or try to convince others that they should have or could have done something differently.

It doesn't change anything at this point.

I have moved forward.

I watched the news last night for quite some time, waiting for results.

As soon as everything was announced, I made an announcement of my own.

"I'm going on a run.  Who wants to join me?"

And Isabel and I headed out for a 4 mile run together.
We didn't talk about the outcome of the election at all.

This morning I woke up and noticed all the hubbub on Facebook and thought about what I could do.

Answer:  NOTHING (at least with the election that is now over and done).
Answer #2:  Make a difference in some way, any way, that I can in the world.

Like by adopting 3 kids from Ukraine.

That's my main contribution to making the world a better place for now.

And you can make a contribution too.
You can make a difference.
(And you don't even need to take on three more kids!
And that's good or bad depending on how you look at it...)

So, while you can't change any election results,
You can certainly make a difference in the lives of Albina, Alina and Maks.
It's easy to donate and change the lives of these three kids.
And if many people do a little something, it will make a huge difference!

Announcing today's (and tomorrow's) fundraiser.
The highlighted area for Obama winning the election is NOW revealed:

DONATE $15

And lastly:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY RUNNING FRIEND!  HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A FABULOUS DAY!  LOVE YOU!
